Recently bought a N Reg Mk3 8V GTI done only 85 000 miles. Full SH, but "IN 02" comes up which I'm told hasn't been serviced for 20 000 miles. Question is my gearbox is a bit stiff. Sometimes when changing down to second, it "pops" in at the last second while releasing the clutch. Could this just be because it's in dire need of fresh clean oil ? Could it be my clutch ? BTW I sprayed GUNK over the engine/gearbox the other day and gave it a good jetting out as was a bit greasy down there. When I drove off the gearbox seemed a little bit smoother. Is it possible that the gearbox linkage-thingy in the engine-bay was maybe a bit on the stiff side ? Anyone had similar experiences they'd like to share ? Thanks.
Sounds like the gear selector bushes, I think GSF do a repair kit. Ps - While you are changing them it might be an idea to change your gear oil Edited by: Paul
