You can put one on there but it wont do anything, you were right in thinking they are only suitable for forced induction applications

You've got to understand that as the temperature of air (or any gas for that matter) increases its density decreases, this is not ideal for an engine as lower density air means less combustion of fuel can occur each time a piston fires.

    With that in mind:

The idea with a FMIC is to run air that is circulating the forced induction system, and therefore getting warm (and less dense), especially if it has passed through an inherently hot turbo, through a radiator; the FMIC, the ambient temperature air passing by the intercooler reduces the temperature (increasing the density) of the air destined for your engine.
Useless on a N/A engine such as yours as any air required is taken directly from the surrounding air and follows a relatively short part into the engine, causing little temperature increase.
Since the intercooler can only cool to ambient temperatures, and you are drawing in air at this temperature anyway it is pointless, especially since the fluid drag inside the intercooler would cause a reduction in air pressure to this inlet; the very thing it is designed to help against in a forced induction engine
