Yeah, I asked my VAG dealer about a splash guard to try and stop my alternator belt slipping. He said he couldn't source a VAG one 'cus they were only fitted to north east european cars where there was severe weather/ snow a lot of the time. I do suspect theres the possibility that VAG just can't be seen to be helping out the owner of a MK2... the irony is that he probably would't have a job if it wasn't for the MK2... Such is life I suppose!
I have one on my MK2 16V, it bolts to the engine block and is more like a sump cage, heavy duty though. It's a proper VAG one as fitted to the Golf Country's in Germany. Don't have any part numbers, I got it from the classifieds.
I made one for my mk2 from kevlar/e-glass and epoxy resin. It's bolted to the sub frame front and back. Taken some serious knocks!
I had one on my Mk1 - but bought it s/hand from a guy in Motoring News. I think Demon Tweeks do them altern8 - but you'll pay top $$$$ Edit - or you might want to try Peter Lloyd Rallying - they're down your way. Edited by: road rally
cheers guys rr where did yours bolt onto the mk1 i cant see anywhere really unless you use the bolts for the wishbones but not sure on the rear?
erm...IIRC it had an extra piece behind the front of the guard that slotted in to the front engine mounting, and was held at the back by the wishbone bolts. The guy who bought my car might still have it altern8 - I'll ask him if you like...
