Driving home last night in my Mk2 Gti, car seemed to rev for no reason as if the clutch was slipping(was on the throttle but clutch was fully out). Got back to my mates place and noticed an oily drip line on the road behind my car. Managed to nurse it home - just up the road , not had a chance to have a look at it yet.

Suspect possibly blew a seal and gearbox oil may have caused the clutch to slip.

    Any ideas folks?

Probably either the crank seal (most likely) or the gearbox output shaft seal. Either way you're taking the box out!

Probably that if it's just gone without warning. Lets just hope it isn't.

But....if it is, and you catch it soon, you can still save the box by having it rebuilt with new diff bolts and having the hole tig'd up. There is no real stress on this part of the box, and is only there to keep the oil in. Get it tig'd up and all will be ok.
