does anyone know what the vw part no is for the rear tailgate struts on a scirocco? as mine are in ****poor condition and i am sick of nearly getting knocked unconcious everytime i need to get anything out of the boot! i have looked on mine but cant see any numbers .please help before i end up looking like the elephant man.[:^(]

Dont know what the difference will be but listed for 1984 16v, Storm, GT and GTX is part number 533 827 550 A. They are not showing as obsolete but i havnt updated my etka for a while so they could be now, they are 28.95 each Alternatively i may have some off a 1990 GT, i have the bootlid in my garage and im pretty sure it has the struts on it still although i cant guarantee their condition
try eurocarparts - got some for my gtl last year. as mentioned there are different versions to account for the gtx/storm/later cars bigger rear spoiler.
For reference - try these guys - www.cargasstruts.co.uk AKA www.volkswagengasstruts.co.uk (BTW their strut-finder thingy comes up with the same equivalent strut - SDRS128623 - for 533827550 and 533827550A... I guess there's no point in supplying the weaker strut. Interesting they list 533827550A for post-1987 - should be for '86 model year, methinks) Anyway, here's the link, and thet're about 13 per strut: http://www.cargasstruts.co.uk/volkswagen-scirocco-p-404.html Now what I'm after is the b&s bolts (with the ball head) as one of mine has just sheared off Also - if removing (or fitting) s/h struts... check the socket isn't damaged. Just looked at a pair I acquired ages ago to discover that it looks like the chap didn't take the spring clip off before prising them away from the ball (see bottom pics here: http://www.cargasstruts.co.uk/how_to_replace_car_gas_strut.php?Year=0&Model=all&Make=all) and now the sockets on otherwise good struts are a bit knackered!

533 827 550 is the weaker strut at 380N 533 827 550A is meant for the spoiler and is at 470N http://www.tailgatestruts.com also 13 each!
