    Hi,

I'm having loads of grief with my Leon TDi (110 MY00, so non-PD) work-horse. I won't go into the problems, but suffice to say it won't start and I've ruled out nearly everything bar the injector pump (which is pumping fuel.)

I've been looking around and came across an engine & box from a GT TDi for about 600. This got me thinking.....I might be better off swapping the whole lot? Does anyone know how many problems I might come across going from non-PD to PD? I'm thinking loom, ecu, immobiliser, lift pump etc.

    Just a thought.

    Thanks, Rich

i had a pd130 years ago, in a 2002 audi. i had most of the dashboard out putting hifi in there. i found out that without the clocks plugged in the engine will not start.

so if youre putting a later pd in, itll need the clocks to go with the ecu etc just to amke sure it starts

Mmmmm, that sounds like it could be a bit tricky. Could open a whole can of worms.

    Turns over but won't start.

Problems started a while ago with hesitation and stuttering under load. VAG-COM showed a couple of faults....

17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
17656 - Injection Start Regulation: Control Deviation

The first being cused by sticky vanes. (I replaced N75, and vacuum lines anyway)

About a month ago, it got really bad, stuttered and died [:^(]
There was a large puff of smoke from the pipes when it stopped, and a smaller amount from the turbo area.

Odd thing was it started up fine after it had cooled down [:s] short run though and it died, not to restart!

Being stubbon I will NOT take it to a garage and I'm in the process of taking the turbo off (probably to replace)

Bet you wish you hadn't asked now

    black smoke yeah?

mine did have an issue for a while where the EGR valve cocked up. it was stuck open which made it very hard to start and when it did start it was stupidly easy to stall and you needed full throttle to make it move from a standstill lol

Greyish I think, hot buring smell from engine too[:s]

EGR is ok, clean and functioning, ruled that out at the weekend. Hope it is the turbo as it's a much cheaper and easier fix than the IP.

even if the turbo isnt doing anything it should still start and run rough.

any chance the heater plugs are shagged hence its harder to start?

i had a TD escort years ago that wouldnt start. fuel filter housing was cracked so had no pressure. it would start when you sprayed diesel easy start stuff in through the intake.

might be worth trying that with yours

Thats what I was worried about.

Don't think it's the heaters, I've disconnected the coolant temp sensor for maximum heating to no avail. Apparently they only start to be used in very cold conditions.

Might try some of that diesel easy start stuff......

    Grrrr I hate cars.
