Did they look at the live data for the MAF?? should be able to tell if thats intermittent...

Other thing it could be is the N75 valve

    I'm still learning about diesels
Don't think N75 valves are a lot of money are they but I think there are a few?

the N75 usually dies due to crud from the breather making its way along vac lines into the N75. it all has to be cleaned

find your wastegate actuator and follow the vac hose back. it goes to a little box, that is the N75. id guess wd40 would clean it good.

you need to cleanout or replace the vac lines too and clean the gunk out of the breather and inlet system too. if you dont itll just bung the N75 straight away.

this may cure the prob, it may not. you could even have a boost leak or the EGR valve coule be stuck open

Don't right off garages until they've been given a fair chance - leave the car with them if necessary- they do want to help, but it may not come free. You'll certainly be never charged for ALL the time actually spend on diagnosing.

For now, put much of the usual guesswork above on the sidelines, and look into the Maf. Also remember that the money you've spend means nothing unless it runs correctly, and no-one will buy it until it does anyway.

if theres no stored faults it could be the MAF if it's loosing power & has drive
N75 or a turbo fault will throw up a code in the ECM

when you say say it's loosing power doing 70/80, when pressing the Go pedal does it allow the rev guage to shoot up? is so thats the clutch plate worn

ideally take to a VW specialist, anyone know of any in that area??

Yep, but I think I've mentioned JKM so many times now to steve, people will start to think I've got shares in the company!
