I have been looking at the W8 passats today and they seem pretty reasonable, anyone had any experience of them?
I saw one at Leicester VW and had a look round it. Look fantastic and well specced up, and quite cheap for what it was
I'd like one. There's a silver estate that parks round the corner from my gaff every now and then. It also went past me in my V6 4motion Golf and made me look like I was standing still! Awesome sound, loads of extras available - get one and learn the name of every attendant in your local petrol stations.
They all are! The W8 is about as desirable as you r average Merc/BMW/VAG V12 in terms of running costs. Go shopping for a used V12 from any German manufacturer, and one of the first things the salesman will harp on about is how much the car cost new. Trust me, the ONLY 12-cylinder engines that ever appreciate in value are either Italian, and over 40 years old, or hiding in the back of a McLaren F1.
There's a silver one near me with the number plate 'W8' but i've seen it at VW in the service section more than once now. Cost of parts make me wary as I originally looked at these for a giggle due to the spec...mpg and servicing of major parts didn't seem great. Plus isn't the tax band high i would assume?
the tax is a ggod point. MPG would be a massive problem as i dont do many miles and i would probably convert is to LPG. Its how reliable the rest of the car is that concerns me
The tax aint bad at all for what it is: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=22496#manu=12243&model=1049&deriv=22496
my old boss had one of these it was blue with chrome trim and tan leathers. looked really sweet and went even sweeter
The RAC bloke who took my Skoda home when I bust the sump "off-roading" told me that they do the unarked cop cars as well, and typically the cops will kill a W8 clutch in 3 months. Near enough on the button, the same car gets towed in for a clutch change. Doubtless that's largely due to cop driving style, but even I would have trouble killing any clutch in 3 months... doubt they are cheap to replace, either...
Don't they have something like 275 hp from a 4.0L? Think I remember reading in an old copy of VW Driver a while back, it mentioned that the engine wasn't particularly torquey for it's size, mind you heavy engine and heavy car. I like the look of the car and the exhaust pipes either side pesonally.

get an audi s4 and have over 300bhp just from a remap. it will be just as much of a pain to live with but it will have proper power and youll be able to tune it
