What about the Audi A2 1.4 TDI 90 Sport - chipped to 130 bhp? Oh no. The silly bu99ers don't make them anymore!
We have talked below about easily tuning anonymous cars. Chipping the A2 is a simple process and reatively cheap. A lot cheaper than sticking a big engine and big guns on a Merchant Ship. Less confused now?
Oh, right. So not talking production cars anymore. Google 'Ford Royal Nail Van', and there's your sleeper
The title says 'Q' Cars. http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=2087676&postcount=37 The original 'Q' vehicles were originally modified from standard to fool the experts.
And our OP (who, in my opinion, gets to set the tone of this thread) asked; "What other Q car's from the 80's or 90's can you think of that you just don't see anymore?" How the hell would anybody ever know if they'd seen a chipped Audi A2? I, like most folk in this thread, kept it on the subject of stealthy fast production cars. Not aftermarket tuning projects - what would be the point of that?
Ah ha. I understand the definition of Q Car now! That's the way to do it! If only one could have specified the 1990 90 S2 with a breathed-on S1 motor. (1990 cos you don't need a catylist) RHD. Twin plate sequential box. Front diff. raised and moved forward. Carbon propshaft from the US Spec cars. Two door aluminum body. Plastic windows. Stripped out interior with a pair of Kevlar Recaros. AP Competition Brakes. Sachs Competition Suspension. BBS Wheels forged by Fuchs. Magnesium Alloy for all casings, not just the sump. Titanium sump and rear diff. shields. The mag sump cracks easily when bashed. Forged rear wishbones as well as the front. (Easy home mod.) Rear Radiator, battery, alternator, etc. All pipe runs inside the body. Headlights that actually work. No rear spoiler or badges. You'd have a pretty good Q Car! Trouble with removing the rear spoiler on a 90 though is that the car gets uber light at the back at well below its max speed! EDIT. I'd add a bit of weight with electric de-misted front and rear screens. Possibly an electric cab heater? Maybe a cab cooler though, with the rad pipes running through the body?
Audi 200 Quattro Turbo. Had a couple of these. Rapid out of the box with soooo much mentalist potential. And they're dull and fugly.
Nice R8s. Only 15" I guess though? They look so much better than the UR Q ones with massive rim outstand. If you have got any 16" lying around? I might even be willing to swop for a set of Old Skool 8 x 16 BBS RGs, off mine! Every time I looked at 200s to they were flipping autos, or knackered! ps. It's a 200, so Turbo not required!
I had mentioned that I thought Audi had, in their time, made 'one or two' proper Q-cars. PH's Shed Of The Week was one of them, imo. Though the alloys on that one are rancid, and make a rather loud statement. Standard car is really very understated.
The V8s look so much better on the 8 x 16 BBS RGs. Even better still on the 8 x 17 RGs. I wish I could find some![:^(] I need those V8 wings to graft on to my 100, as the RGs stick out of the arches a bit.
Mine was an auto and still very rapid. The laziness issue comes into its own when you boot them. Shocks quite a few people as essentially the engine is nearly a UR setup (well mine was - I know the later ones got a bit lame).
had a 2.3L version of one of those Avants at a place i worked, absolutley loved driving it, we had a pug 505 V6 too, both great fun things that were cheap to buy at the time, The pug was never serviced as the boss was tight, the dipstick went rusty but it kept on going.

How about the Mercedes 300TE AMG. 6.0l V8 power. Really fancied one of these but the wife made me choose between a G-Wagen and one.
