IS A PILE OF SHOITE! Click here! VW in their infinite wisdom forgot about the wonderful reception they got for the GTI Concept and made this monstrosity (spelling probably wrong!) They wonder why they have trouble selling their cars. I for one can tell why...THEY'VE LOST THE PLOT! Rant over. If you want a similar looking "GTI", the SEAT Ibiza Cupra with a 20vT or TDI PD150 should be out by end of the year.
Quite frankly, if I was going to spend 18Grand on a new VW I'd get one of these. http://www.vw.co.uk/new_cars/beetle/v5_sport Hey at least you know it won't be obsolete in 5 years.
Golfs have always been expensive and this isnt much more than a mk4... we've been seeing pics of it for ages why the sudden outrage at its ugliness?
Don't forget that those are only the TDI versions. The petrol engine GTI's are released later next year (2004). 18,000 for a new golf is a joke, but then tbh all new cars are over priced, so I'm not really surprised tbh
Hi, I dont think 18k is that much for a new Golf nowadays. Ive just paid a shade over that for a Leon Cupra R 225 which a lot of VW peeps sl*g off saying its a Golf wannabe. Thanks Ben
All the Anniversary GTI's were 18680 on the road. A lot of the competitions cars - new Astra and New Focus, top of th range cars will be similarly priced. BTW - that is just a trim spec for the TDI models. As has already been said, the proper GTI will not be out until December 2004.
So if this isn't the "real" GTI, then why are they calling it the GTI! I think they are keeping people under the illusion that they'll build the concept when in reality they probably won't. The chances of me buying a newer VW are slimming.
You are quoting TDI figures. This car is the replacement to the out going MK4 130bhp TDI which also did 0-62 in about 9.5 seconds. It was Badged GT TDI, I would assume this GTI is just a way of trimming the cars. BTW, the 0-62 on a TDI isnt worth a pooe! You try keeping up with it on the open road
It has always been quoted that the New GTI will follow the design concept launched recently. This country buys cars based on Badges. I wouldnt be surprised if the badging is just for this country. Remember the 2.0 "GTI" never had that badge on the continent. Reps like the badge over here - so VW will put it on to sell more cars. Simple really Oh and looking at that link again, they are listed as "GT TDI" not just "GTI" same as the out going 130bhp TDI The new GTI will only be available in TSI model, but I am sure a high performance Diesel will follow. Rumour has it, it will be a 180bhp TDI Edited by: Rob.gti
What a bunch of moaning gimps!!! Times change, no one wants a mk1 in this day and age!! next you'll be crying to go back to 14.4 modems and amiga computers cos they were the original designs!
Why do so many people still drive Mk1's then and spend 100's keeping them on the road? Also, broadband etc. is quicker than a 14.4 modem, unlike VW who are making GTI's slower.
ok maybe rephrase what Andy said... the new car buying general public dont want mk1s anymore! Maybe they still want the ideal and the fun factor but they want the safety, comfort and gadjetry as well
You're all missing the point this car has a "2 tone horn"!!!! Doubt if you'd find one of those on a new ferrari!
so are they actually going to be badged GTI's then or what, have they dropped it in favour of gt+engine type. gt tdi and gt fsi!
The only one I would even consider would be the R32. And that only if I could find a used one, crazy mad overpricedness.
