Hi The 020 and 02a/j gearboxes have tapered threads on the filler and drain plugs, 23-24mm ish. Anyone know what thread this is? Need a plug with a smaller hex in middle or a conventional 6 point nut head. Probably available somehere else if i knew what the thread was. Ta Rob
M24x1.5 apparently....but its a tapered thread so I dont know how this works and other sources ECS tuning do a magnetic one with a hex head instead of internal hex - sorted http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_III--VR6_12v/Search/SiteSearch/Drain/ES6998/ available in UK from PSI Tuning
Yeh, I get this, so if the gearbox hole is M24x1.5, the thread on the plug must be some metric pipe thread of sorts
Tbh Rob, without looking at a Zues book or something similar I'm not 100% but its gotta be something like that.
Looks like metric taper threads are out there. Didnt know they existed. BMW use them also, and have a nice external 17mm hex taper plug same size http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-B...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257f4c4da5
ECS tuning plug arrived - lovely thing - and with a very strong magnet for fishing out bits of gear tooth
