With Curby this weekend ive been having a go at improving?? the performance on the little 1.6 (i reckon ive got bottom spot in the bag!) So hopefully a quick question, ive been doing the timing on my 1.6 EG engine GTi which is running unleaded, ive set somewhere near 6 BTDC. Difficult to be exact as there is no V at 6 it is only on TDC as presumably this is what it should be set at for leaded. From the haynes 6 BTDC is 16mm before TDC, so ive done it to that. Is this the correct setting for my car? Once set on 6BTDC my tickover is 1100 rpm, i have undone the idle adjuster (all the way) but it doesnt make any difference. Any ideas why? is this the timing is wrong as i can get the revs down a bit by playing with this? or something else, mixture?? Ive also borrowed a colourtune to have a go at setting the mixture anyone any experiance of these? any good? Thanks for any help Steve
