Ok I know 195/50's are the job for 15's on a mk1 but what size should I be going for on a set of 14's to keep the same outside diameter? 195/55s?
I'm thinking that 14's together with my eibach/koni setup & rubber bump stops should give me a good mix
between comfort and handling for a daily driver.

I'm reverting back to 14s (Can't afford to get the arches rolled to stop 15s from rubbing) and i was looking at a tyre size of 175/60x14. Don't know if this is correct, but i think that it will look right on the car.

me too, good choice as the 175/60's are a little skinny!

185/60's sound about right, should look well on my le casteletts (when I get them) & be pretty comfy on the sh*tty roads around here aswell.
Anyone want to recommend a reasonable model of tyre for them? I'm looking for something mid range, I'd want it to have decent grip in the wet without costing the earth.

    Anyone have a pic of a mk1 on 14s?

Here's what mine looks like on 14's. These are 185/60R14 Pirelli P600s.

Mmmm, My MK1 came with 195's on the standard 13 inch alloys, it was murder trying to haul it around corners.

I've just gone back to the standard 175 70 13's and I don't regret it, it feels so much more chuckable through corners due to the fact it takes so much less effort to haul the steering wheel about.

I'm not sure about the 14 inch alloys though, 185's might be OK.

I bought my MK1 to drive anyway, not to look at it so I'll stick with the 175's for now.
