I was just curious, I knew I had heard something about them somewhere but wasn't sure if they were dth or seperate ones mounted on a manifold. Anyone on here using the TWM itbs?
The torque shape looks ok for Jenveys, do not know how the numbers relate to my testing. This what I observe at Garage Streamline from bone stock engines and ITBs developed by me. No doubt results would vary depending on where you go.
some great , documented reserch, testing , with super final result , good stuff me and my eldest son making steady progress on the throttle body situ , kevs going nissan pulsa 45s on omex , my self going bmw m3 , boddies custome manifold , mega squirt for now , quit different set up from most on here , just going my own way about it , just hope its going to fit in the engine bay
From what car is rubber hose that goes from air box to intake manifold? My friends Mk2 abf has same airbox but he had to drill an additional hole. Where is the intake temperature sensor?
Apologies for my ignorance, and thank you. His donor engine intake hose is little bit different (why?) so Ive thought its not from ABF. Here is a pic:
my intake hose is slightly different too, it rubs the brake fluid cap and sometimes unscrews it lol, its a seat one :-)
good thread this. the original post about ITB not being worth it was taking into account total cost, for 2k the extra few BHP over stock isn't worth ti, but if you can do 90% of it yourself then it becomes viable
If you have already got an aftermarket ECU, the change to throttles can be as little as a couple hundred quid
indeed but if you are a regular 16v guy then the total outlay is quite high bhp/ did the project with the bellmouth injectors ever get finished? that looked really interesting, can't remember who was building it
You are correct. Before the popularity of affordable engine controllers and OEM components that could be integrated with the know how, converting to off the shelf ITBS and running with say Webcon management or similar was a pretty expensive exercise for a potential loss in torque stretched further into the engine speed range for a tad more power. As people looked at power points rather than torque profiles the 2000+ quid conversion price was not a justification. With the systems I created using Toyota components as the base part, there was a significant improvement in both power and torque with the 42mm units,vs the std plenum unit, when it was fitted to Gurds' Mk1 2 years ago. I am hoping to now fit 42 then 45mm ITBs units to JENVEE in successive testing, after an updated radiator passes some durability checks on my daily drive cycle. All in the name of research of course
In addition to some joint test work with Brian G, These are the selfbuilt systems I am hoping to be running back to back on the engine as it is currently. My Toyotecwerke ITB42 AIS as previously tested on Ben S' Golf 2 and vw_singh's Golf 1 And my Toyotecwerke ITB45 AIS which would cover a suggestion by Bill earlier in the post. I am fortunate that the main components for the above cost 0 to me and the chap who kindly donated them to me, was quite surprised to see what was done to them, as they were on 4AGE 20v engines that were returns, waiting to be scrapped! I also had the manifold flanges chopped off as another favour. The injectors and fuel rail, were bits I had hanging around. Sundries such as fasteners and the 1.3 throttle cable used, did cost a few peanuts but the biggest expense was the Vel Stacks and second was the ally welding to graft the inlet systems. That was the '10%' of work due to outsourcing that could not be avoided. 90% came from research and know how, putting them together and getting them to fit either MK1 or Mk2 Chasiss. The existing megasquirt ECU had no mods to run except a software strategy change to alpha N and a secondary custom loom was added to the existing, made in house.
Just got the car running sweet again from an engine failure ( 1 snapped ring on piston 1), more details will be in the JENVEE thread. I need to re-baseline on the the replacement short engine, which would allow changes like the above, to proceed. It should be a quick swap, pending radiator fitment as the loom is already there!
