hi guys anyone running 225/45/16 road legal semi slicks? any issues with rubbing or catching on full lock? im currently running 215/40/16 on a 8j rim but really need some sticky tyres and looking at 225/45/16 but before sinking a load of cash into new tyres im hoping they will just about fit. its a mk2 non wide track if it helps cheers all
Some would argue that's too much tyre for a light mk2 unless you're running mega power. Getting heat into rear would be difficult.
I run 195/55/15 Nankang NS2R's on an 8j rim et 25. I'm struggling with them. all my arches are rolled flat aswell. Without having flared arches or running the car sky high it will always catch
Sorry, not really answering your question but I have now run these sizes on the race car: 205/45/16, 215/45/16, 225/45/16, 205/40/17, 225/45/17 and 235/40/17 on wheel sizes of 16x7 ET20, 16x7.5 ET30 and 17x8 ET20. My fastest laps each year so far have all been on 205 width tyres. I've come to the conclusion that a 205/40/17 tyre on a 17x8 wheel is the best combo for me, even though it's a tiny bit stretched. Costs less too which is an added bonus. I guess my point is that going wider doesn't necessarily mean going faster. It can also affect gearing more than you might think too. Also, a lot will depend on which tyre you got for. For example, a 225/45 Yoko A048 is very different in shape to a 225/45 Kumho V70, which I rate to be the fastest List 1B road legal tyre in the dry, love the soft and medium compounds, New 888R's to be tested soon.
