To be fair, the parts guys at my local dealer are very good.. inviting me in to search their system for what I want. Granted, it`s unlikely to be in stock but always arrives within a few days along with a notification call.

Just visited the local Bosch dealer who provided excellent service and trade price :)

It`ll be interesting to see how TPS operates up here as they`ll have serious competition from the definitely TRADE ONLY Dingbro outfit.

    Hopefully we`ll all benefit.

Just had a look at thier website Glasgow branch opening this month, I wonder If club gti would come under the heading of motoring organisation with regards to discount/tps membership?

my local dealer is the same not really interested in older models and doesn't hold any stock and if they need to make a special order there always seems to be a minimum amount with defeats the point really.

The TPS system is set up for trade deliveries in mind. It can be complicated to collect from them. That is where your local vw dealer comes in, they will be able to transfer from a TPS dealer if they are the same company. The whole thing is to try and stop individual VW dealers who are trade centres fight against one another for customers, and to concentrate on companies like GSF and Euro Car Parts. They do not have retail in mind. To be honest i think its just a big farce. It wont work

Just thought I'd put my two penneth in!!!

I actually work at one of these fabled and much maligned TPS centres!! (Shock Horror!!!):o

Well, I'm based in the dedicated trade parts phone office in Parkway VW in Derby, along with another two guys (Dave & Dave). We look after the Leicester TPS trade area calls. These areas are all pre-determined by VW - due to the whole TPS set up being funded by VW, from the computers we work on, to the vans that the drivers shoot around in all day! The three of us are all sat in the same phone office as the Derby TPS fellas too so we can all pull our resources, information and experience (over 70-odd years between us) to help the greater cause - getting parts through the door to the customer, cheaply and quickly!! Ok we're not GSF or ECP, but then again we sell 100% genuine VAG parts - that includes Skoda, SEAT, Audi and Commercial VW too...

Oh, don't forget, if we don't have it in stock you can get it the next day if you order before 3pm, (if you're desperate, you can order for next day on a "Premium" order upto 6pm for a charge of 6 per item line) - If it's in stock at VW that is.. As said previously in this thread, don't expect obsolete parts to become available overnight!!!:p

Both our TPS sites (Leicester and Derby) are based at the dealer's existing locations, but are run as a seperate entity.. The servicing side is still run through the dealer as per normal, but the parts customer - including both Trade and Retail can come in and purchase parts as they always used to! Probably even better than they used to, because both sites have had extensive building and racking work undertaken (all paid for by VW) to ensure this works!! It really isn't a fly-by-night scheme, it's huge and definitely the way forward for the genuine spare parts business... (I've been in the parts trade for over 12 years now and this is defo the best thing ever to have been implemented by any manufacturer I've ever worked for..)[:$]

i know how this all sounds like a bit of propaganda to try and get everyone to use TPS, it really isn't! I've driven dubs since I passed my test at 17, I'm part of this scene - even when I worked for Nissan for years! I'm not a corporate yes man either, I needed a job after travelling the world, came back and found an opening at a manufacturer where I was passionate about their product!!! Now I'm part of VW!!! Literally![:D]

Please, somebody tell me to stop typing!!! Aaargh!!! [:s]

Oh, because Club GTI is set up on Derby's system it will be recognised in the customer search field on all TPS sites because it is a countrywide database.. ;)

But be patient, due to the pre determined sales area restrictions on the new system "SAP", it may take a while to unlock these account restrictions if they've not been used before.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Anyway, I'm tired!! Off to beddy byes for me!! [|)]

    Ask About The Friday Specials!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to let you all know, all TPS sites get a "Friday Special" set by VW. It's basically a special offer on a certain part that VW needs to get rid of cheap as chips to clear some space at the warehouse!!

These parts aren't kept in stock by the TPS site, they are all available to order for the next working day, just as long as the order is placed on Friday!!! Hence Friday Special!

    THIS WEEK'S FRIDAY SPECIAL IS.....................

    SONY CDX-T69 6 Disc Autochanger

Brand new in box - not refurbed!!

    65+vat

Just give your local TPS a call and they should be able to help you out!! While stocks last that is..

Grozzy, really helpful couple of posts - Thanks! Please keep us posted on anything you think is of interest!

I just rang up the Slough branch (as it's nearest to me) and asked what the policy was. The guy told me they can't order stuff for retail customers, but maybe the CGTI reference will help. Is it registered at a Derby address, or is the address not set up? Some of the SAP system address fields are normally compulsory (city and postcode, at the very least) although it can be changed. (I'm an SAP project manager by trade)

He also told me that officially they're not supposed to deal with a retail customer unless the dealer is out of stock. Then they're allowed to treat it as an emergency and supply it if they've got it in stock.

Anyway, a 20L drum of Synta Silver is 36.56 + VAT, which is a BARGAIN, and it's in stock.

So I know where I'll be buying my oil in future!

    No problem..

Club GTI is set up as a "Ship to" party (no.469) so any TPS site should be able to raise a generic "Trade Parts Cash Sale" specific to their own area and input Club GTI in the 'ship to' field..
The "TPCS" should be already set up with Parts Club discount in the invoicing parameters anyway...;)

Oh, also ask if you can have a copy of the Parts Club book too, that'll give all the part numbers and both retail & trade prices for fast moving servicable items for most models from 1981.... :)

I work for VW in high wycombe. We competed for the TPS for the slough area, which goes up to aylesbury and as far down as staines. Unfortunatly we did not get the area because the company we were competing against under quoted us. And now at the end of october the trade I supply to will no longer be purchasing parts from us. We will just have to hand over our customers to the other company. But none of our trade customers are very happy with the arrangements. The hate using the company whos taking over. Plus they still dont have the staff to cope with the sudden customer increase. If things were to go horrible wrong VW will struggle very hard to stop customers going to the likes of GSF, Euro Car Parts, GPC or Allparts

Yeah, I feel for you mate, there will be casualties during this changeover, we've lost a heap of customers that are "out of our area" too... Not sure how things will pan out for the non-TPS outlets.. But if things do go tits-up I'm sure GSF and the like will clean up.. Until they need a dealer only part..

So I went into Slough this morning.... and came out with 20L of synta silver, a green gearbox end cap, and they didn't have the gear oil for my car.

However, it came to 47 in total (about the price of 10L of oil if I bought it from the dealer.)

In the end he had to put it through as a cash sale, as he couldn't find the number for Club GTI on the system... can you double check what the sold-to party is, and the name, and the search term (if you didn't fill it in, put GTI in there, or something)?

Also, your SAP system is running like a two legged dog... which eejits put that in?

It's not the product, so much as the way it gets implemented, and I can't complain, as it's kept me in a job for 10 years!

All I did was search for "club" and it comes up!! Don't know what he was doing...[:s]

SAP was incredibly slow the last few days due to one of the servers in Germany going "KAPUT!" Very very frustrating.....[:x]

Just given the Guildford branch a call. He wasn't having any of it.
Said he wouldn't do a sale as I wasn't in the trade. Mentioned CGTI, still no luck [:^(]

I suppose it still comes down to the discretion of the individual at the branch as to whether they give discount or not.. If it's not an actual "Trade" customer in the old fashioned sense of the word, ie.. Garage/Bodyshop/Sole trader etc I suppose they can do what they want, I suggest getting the mods to send a headed letter requesting a trade account to the relevant TPS sites... ;)

Can you double check and confirm what's already on the system? There's no point drawing attention to it if we've already got an account set up? Is there a 'sold to' number on the system?

Just had a look (using "club" as the search criteria), the only one that's actually set up as a "Sold to" party has a Warrington address.. The number is "124084".. But this won't be available to all TPS sites due to the sales area restrictions..

One way of sorting it out may be to say that that's where the "Head Office" is located and to ask if it could be set up at your local branch.. It's worth a try...[8(]
