Since yesterday morning I have experienced difficulty when trying to access any eBay pages. I am able to access any other website perfectly fine and very quickly over my broadband connection, but quite bizarrely, I have to wait one or two minutes for any pages from www.ebay.com, www.ebay.co.uk or www.ebay.de etc to appear.

I've asked my ADSL provider, Eclipse, if there are any known routing problems, and they said that they're aware of none.

I know that other people are able to access eBay just fine, so it's definitely something related to my connection, but I have no idea what!

Only thing I have done recently is to have installed Zone Alarm.

    altern8,

It's most interesting to hear from someone else who uses Eclipse and has the same problem.

    Eclipse just said to me:

    I just waffled back:

Odd, and doing my head in now.

I was getting this problem on NTL about a month ago. Ebay would take AGES to load. Tried using different browers on my PC but it made no difference.

After a while the problem just seemed to go away. I've not had it since.

I'm still having exactly the same problem. It has not gone away.

I've been informed that the tracert always times out simply because the remote server doesn't support the kind of packets that are being used for the tracert... or something like that. In other words my connection and ISP are perfectly fine.

It's actually something to do with my machine that is causing this.

I can still access other sites perfectly well. Only eBay pages (from any eBay site - UK, US, .de) take a minute or two to appear.

I've tried usual stuff like clearing out cookies, cache, and so on.

    I've tried installing Sun Java.

I just haven't a clue what's causing this, and it is doing my head in. Anyone have any more ideas please?

Any better ? Outside chance it could be Zone Alarm.

Try switching it off for a few mins while you try ebay.

If still no luck, uninstall it (will only take few mins to re-intsall ) reboot, and try again.

Amazingly, defragmenting my hard drive has cured the problem!

    Most bizarre.

HANG ON!!! It's nothing to do with defragmenting the drive at all. eBay started working again because I usually turn off my virus software before running the defragger, and I'd forgotten to turn it back on. Enabled Norton Antivirus again and the problem comes back. Disable Norton and the requested eBay page immediately appears...
