I was wondering if anyone could supply images of a twin throttle install on a Mk1, mainly at the throttle end if someone can help? Presumably for the second cable you need to drill an additional hole right next to where the OE cable passes through? Cheers.
45 DCOE carbs. ...with a Weber LP1000 Linkage, it's a single cable kit but the lever mounting plate is the same for the twin cable kit. I'm thinking now to just go with buying two new cables, rather than my butchered up OE Mk2 cable which isn't really working.
Cheers Jason, much appreciated. Sorry about not hearing from me much I've kind of switched off from it for a while, trying to get rid of the stupidly high pedal with the mechanism, leaking washers and the rest. I'll get back to it soon I'm sure, will be getting a corsa rad for it soon and then a couple of weeks after, I'll buy the K+N filters so that it's all fit for the road (and hopefully it will be a bit quieter to keep the neighbours happy so I can start it up and get it up to temp).
No worries bud, been busy too, well play catch up at some point. I'll try and get that pic over the weekend.
can i just ask what is the second cable for is it the choke? if not what are the advantages of haveing a second cable? thank you tosh
Bingo... thats largely the reason, if one cable breaks, you still have throttle control. But with two cables taking the strain, there less chance of that happening, so it's also more reliable.
just to veer off a bit I am currently performing a ITB conversion and found the throttle cable for my MK2 a bit short, what has ppl done here, your input much appreciated? thanks... again sorry for thread jacking...
The choke lever (Weber 45 model) is on the back of the carburettor near the top, 1 per twin carb. You dont necessarily need 2 throttle cables but it's always nice to have a backup.
I think I'll get another pedal and cut the loop at the top just enough to enable me to slip the block over and tighten up, just checked the widths and it should work.
i used to run one cable, it snapped a few miles from home so i rigged up a peice of rope as a replacement. Had to run it out of the bonnet and through the window, throttle response isnt good when using your hand. Always best to run two cables I welded a twin pedal block onto the end of the standard accelerator pedal, ive still got it somewhere ill post a pic asap
^ That sounds like a right challenge! Right... All up and running now! But I've noticed that the throttle pedal (albeit it was a bit too high at first) seems to be a bit of an on/off switch with not a lot of moduluation. I was wondering if touching the following would help to increase the travel maybe? The link bar (red) is adjustable, longer/shorter and the lever arm (green) can re-position the link bar further in or away from the throttle lever pivot. Could someone tell me what adjusting either will do please?
Try moving the piviot back to the hole behind it, or shorten the top link (in red) and move it down the arm (in green). Yr cable is also not sat correctly in the end of the quadrant.
I'll give that a go with the link bar and the arm tomorrow. Re: cable. I need to find a pair of cables which have the T-bars at the end, I never got any with my linkage mechanism and it was a single cable kit also. I've now got an extra cable adjuster, just missing the right cables. Cheers Jason for all the help in getting this conversion sorted!
