I want to get a new set of 15" wheels for my mk2 Golf but have the option of 195/50 or 195/45 profile tyres for a bit extra.
    Does anyone have any thoughts?
I don't want the ride to be too harsh, but quite like the stretched euro look - they're going on 7.5J wheels.

will the rolling radius be affected much by the lower profile or not?

45 series are meant to be a better size for 15s and look nicer.

50 is standard and maintain the correct rolling circumference.
Your speedo will be out by a couple of %....its the thing behind your steering wheel that moves when you push your right foot down.

55 profile is standard on the mk2 with 15" wheels. Is 45 too far?

good point. just took 60mm drop off mine to improve ride quality. 35mm eibachs are a dream. 50s are prob best.

I have got 195/45/15 on my mk3 ( diff car i know but its the tyres we are talking about).

They look a lot better, but the ride is a it more bumpy than say 195/55 or 50's.. But then you get used to it after a while. just try to avoid potholes..

Im happy with the 50s on mine, the tyre sits under the arch more aswel so it looks lower [:D]

i run 195/40 r16s and -60mm on my polo and it gives me headaches on some of the really bumpy countrylanes...its alright on the better roads, depends where u live, id go for bigger tyres, can be annoying esp when u have people and weight on board

Got 45s on my 7x15 Ronals. Ride is OK with 50mm drop and Konigsports. BUT handling is pants, you can almost feel the rubber sliding around on the rims.

Much prefer my 14" steelies for caning the motor.

45s do look the business tho....
