uneven tyre wear - solved - magnetic camber gauge = rubbish

    I just use that gauge for swopping shocks over.
    Measure on jacks, change shocks, adjust new to same before putting wheels back on.
    Job done till y' can be bothered to get it setup properly.

    What i do is put the jack under the front ball joint, then jack car till its the right level from the ground. No need to mess about having car supported at the right height, just adjust jack till you're happy and then set the camber. MK1 is handy for this as you just spin the eccentric camber bolt round with a spanner till its right, on a MK2 its not so easy to get it in the right spot.
    VW use a special tool for this, its a threaded bar that sits between the shock and the bodywork, you adjust the length of the bar till the camber is right then lock down the 2 shock bolts.
