I'm about to weigh up all the parts on my car that form the unsprung weight.
If anyone has any measurements available, please feel free to add them. We can then collate them on a per car basis.

Thanks Rob. That's the thread that made me start this one, as I haven't been able to find any decent info. As I'm weighing stuff, I'm sure others have, so we can collate it all here.

    Question: are drive shafts unsprung?

Would you need to halve the driveshaft weight because it is pivoted at one end?

yes - half of the suspension wishbones / links / shocks / springs / driveshafts

not sure if half sounds right for some components but thats the general rule of thumb

all of the brakes, hubs, wheels, tyres, air

I thought it was half the suspension arms, links and now drive shafts; and all the hubs, brakes, wheels and shocks/springs.

Nope. Half the shock is attached to the chassis, and same approx can be said of spring.

256mm hub with CV as I couldn't undo the nut without the driveshaft on. 7.2kg

Rose jointed suspension arm, thought to be AW Tracksport, but not 100% sure. 2.8kg

280mm Black Diamond grooved disc. 5.8kg

Wilwood Dynalites with aluminium bracket. 2.2kg

I forgot to weigh the drive shafts, so will do those next time. I don't have any tie rods to weigh, as I'm not taking them off the steering rack just to weigh them.

I didn't take the shocks off as I'm changing them. I'll weigh the new and old ones when the new ones arrive.

My wheels and tires are 14.2kg without air.

Assuming 10kg for the drive shafts and tie rods (complete guess), that would make the unsprung mass:

    7.2 + 5.8 + 2.2 + 14.2 + (10 + 2.8)/2 = 36.1kg without the shocks, so probably a little over 40kg.

Rob reckons about 44kg for an Ibiza rear axle, so front and rear unsprung mass looks similair.

I'll update this next time I weigh something else.

Good work, I have plenty of bits that I will try and weigh this week and add here if you like. :)

What do you want to know? I bought them second hand but unused, so I don't know where they originate from.

Rather than clutter up the unsprung weight thread, have a look at page 6 of my build thread here.
As mentioned above, I think they are from AW Tracksport, but haven't been able to confirm.

I know, but I thought you were hazy on where they originated from. See what two children does to your memory! lol
