Hi all just been told I'm running the older ecu and lambda in my Vw which has a 20v turbo from a 99 car.
Been informed it can be upgraded to use the later ecu and wideband and maf from an AUM very easily,
does anyone have and info on this please as was told mapping the later ones gets better drivability cheers

Mapping the later ECUs are just easier for the mapper. No benefit if the hardware is relatively standard and the mapper knows this way around the various control strategies.

Is your car fitted with an AGU or an ARZ engine?

Cheers for the replies it's an AJQ 180 and I've fitted a ko3s it's in a Vw T4 van tbh just seems like crap boost so spoke to a mapper who said to up date ecu, lambda to five wire wide band and later maf also asked about deletion of the abs as getting a warning on dash but being told it's not possible to delete as I'm running the clocks out of the donor vehicle which was an A3 on a v reg

ok since its a conversion you'll have to redo the ecu wiring again, not plug n play. that plus need to change a few engine sensors and the coilpacks, run wiring for the DBW pedal from the ecu to the cabin, fit the pedal etc. so not that easy

plus as eddie says, if you find a decent mapper who is willing to work with them the older dbc ecu are no problem

IIRC on the a3 clocks its not so easy to delete the abs, hopefully someone can confirm. but if you change over to MK4 clocks you can turn it all off with vagcom no problem

Ah then it is running 06A906018CJ as the ECU. This is writable via the diagnostic port.

Folk who do not know will always say change it to the later EOBD ME7 ECU as they do not have the tools to map a M3.8.3 ECU. That is why.
That ECU is perfectly mappable I can tell you.

Then if you are running an EU2 ME7 ECU, just like the APY engine 8L S3, APX 8N TT, AYP, 6K Ibiza AYP, AJQ 1L Leon Cupra Aor ARZ powered Golf 4, then there is no benefit, expect the later ECU makes it easier for the mapper to target fuel set point because of the planer feedgas UEGO.

So can I ask if a mapper is requesting I change these parts is it necessary as he tells me it is better as Wideband is more mappable which I agree with so does that kinda show he may not be the right man for the job and who would you guys recommend please

If you are local to London or are willing to travel, get in touch with Toyotec and I'm sure he'll map your car if he has the time. He is a very busy man!

I cannot answer that specific question on ability.
However your car would not be a problem for a professional who understands the control system.

I have mapped one of those engines, as fitted to a Y reg Leon on a lunch time.
So if I can, I am sure there are folk out there with the equipment to get you sorted.
I suggested JKM down Portsmouth in your other thread.

Yes there is a lot of misinformation indeed on the internet and we aim to give detail answers that should send you down the right path to sorting your car.

I would love too, however I have been working on my own bundle of joy after hours.
