Sorry mods first of all for posting in the wrong section, I was hoping more people would see it here.

My car went into the garage to have it's head gasket done but turns out the head is pretty damaged.

Where's the best place to get a new one?

cars a GT Tdi golf. '01, AJM engine, 115ps, 6 spd.

    thanks all.

    would this fit?

i'ved asked the guy for a picture of the face where the gasket sits.

found 3 different brand new sellers on ebay all around the 350 mark.

plus another shop selling at 430. just waiting for a few replies now.

sorry for posting up, seems bit pointless now.

I that for a brand new one?? if so cool as it beats 1200 from VW...

It's used on several different engines and cars including the Touran, New Beetle and Transporter so I thought you'd find one fairly easily...

Brand new/ reconditioned built up. Yer got the price off VW for a laugh, something like 1500 built up, although that is with PD injectors on an exchange basis.

but currently waiting for replies from...

and found this place too... http://www.headcentre.co.uk/

Does the head need to be AJM engine code or is any old tdi pd head ok??

Hmm first one is off a mk3 not PD, second one no part number and mileage and the third is not for the AJM code but unsure what the differences are... you need CX not GX and the AJM head is used on most of the PD TDI's out there but the 150PD uses a different part as above.

    thanks for the help,

this company has just emailed back quoting 590 incl VAt for a PD TDi head..

    http://www.vwenginerecon.co.uk/

I'll call the head centre in the morning and get a quote off them.

Has anyone used either of these companies before?

I'ved decided to go to a shop rather than buy off some random ebay seller to make sure i get a good warranty, too much has gone wrong with this car already!

Proably warped beyond repair if he's been driving about with a blown HG for this long...

Are you bidding on that first one you spotted Paul as it's going in 15mins...

Nah, I'm moving it. You're more likely to get the response you need if you post in the right section. There's no reason why you should get more of a response if you post it in the wrong area.

I'd want some kind of explanation thats abit more than 'probably' warped myself

Might be worth getting a 2nd opinion if theres even the slightest doubt

    Is it Vag?

Pretty damaged is my words putting it lightly! I went round there today and saw it for myself and it's a mess, each of the rings where the gasket sits has carved into the head a bit causing notches and has corroded along these lines in a few places, the water ways (?) have also started corroding where I'ved been topping up all the time and anti freeze has been so diluted its had no affect.

Probably going with a brand new/re con one from AW Engineering now, they got back to me with a proper price for a PD TDi and it's 587. Got a local mate that can get some discount at euro parts but still only brings there's down to the 750 kinda mark.

thanks for the offer vrbanana, without being offencive I'm not risking 2nd hand parts on this now, I'ved had tooo many problems, so spending the money for brand new!.

    Fair enough.
Corrosion wouldn't be problematic, the grooves def would

I wouldn't be so hasty to turn down a cheap 2nd head too.

Get one, have it pressure tested and checked over, and you've basically got that 587 recon head.

I know there would probable be nothing wrong with a 2nd hand head but I'ved had so much bad luck with the car I'ved spent the extra that way i'ved got a 12 month warranty too.

Just ordered from AW engineering, so will have that tomorrow, get it to my mechanic on monday then hopefully get my car back for good (finally!) on thrus/friday.

    Thanks for the help.

Just took delivery of my shiny new head,

just got 1 concern though [:s] the casting numbers are slightly different.

My head number finishes in a R but this heads number finishes in a C

    Please say it doesn't matter!
