    Hi chaps

i have bought a gearbox, numbered AUG 11041 3, to fit in my MK3 2.0l 8v GTi, engine number AGG 114012

it was sold to me as a MK2 GTi 1.8 8v gearbox, so firstly is this correct?

secondly, having installed it, i have no clutch, and have since read that the input shafts are slightly different diameters, [:x]

so is there a definitive answer to what i need to mate these two properly,

different clutch, friction plate etc etc????

    thanks in advance

A new friction disc from an mk2 8v should do the trick I think.

Worse case, you might need a mk2 8v clutch kit.

My 20vT runs a mk2 8v box. All I had to do was bolt an 8v clutch kit to it, along with a mk2 flywheel.

if you go for a complete clutch kit you may need late mk3 1.8, as the flywheel changed part way thru the mk3 production. when the flywheel is off check the number of locating dowels, if there are 2 you have mk2 type flywheel and so can use a mk2 gti clutch kit. if 1 then you need a late mk3 1.8 clutch kit. I believe the friction disc is the same regardless of flywheel type, its just the pressure plate that differs so as above a 1.8 8v mk2/3 one will do

edit: of course you coudl fit a mk2 or early mk3 210mm flywheel, then you can use a mk2 clutch kit regardless of whats on it now. I only buy sachs:
