    Hi All,

I have just plugged in an OBDII Code Error reader and it has come up with these errors on my MK3 Golf VR6 (1997):

    00553 - Idle Speed Regulation
    00668 - Battery ?
01247 - Activated Charcoal Filter EVAP System Solenoid Valve (N80)

I deleted the codes 2 months ago and they have re-appeared.

Now the 688 code if I remember is because I dis-connected the battery last week.

Should I clean the throttle body for the 00533 code .... the idle is a little lumpy at the moment > ? But is it an air leak somewhere and if so where > ?

For the 01247 how do I solve that problem ... is it the N80 valve or something else > ?

(I've check the forum for posts on the 01247 but can't find much)

All replies appreciated - Thanks !

id guess the first one is an air leak.

i think i had that idle fault on my vr, deleted 3 times and returned within a day or 2, removed the throttle valve and gave it a damn good clean out, refitted and adapted it and its all been fine since

I always get that, but I have removed the charcoal filter from my VR as thats where my cold air feed comes thro. Do you still have yours in place

Yeah still have the Charcoal filter in place !

Now is it the pipe to and from the filter or is it the solenoid vale that is playing up ?

If so I read somewhere that you can clean the solenoid valve with petrol ? Would that work ?

The code reader I bought was the U280 ... it was cheap and does a basic job. I have got a OBDII-USB cable but can't get the laptop to connect even with the driver installed ?
