Good evening boys and girls, I though i'd run a VAG-COM check on my 1997 OBD-II R Plate VR6 Golf. here are the results VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-S Chassis Type: 1H - VW G/J/V Mk3 Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,25,56 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 01: Engine Controller: 021 906 256 Component: MOTRONIC M3.8.1 HS V04 Coding: 00000 Shop #: WSC 01317 4 Faults Found: 00281 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68) 03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent 00543 - Shareware Version. Any thoughts/suggestions/opinions all very much appreciated. Thanks Jamie Oh and just for reference, this is what my app decoded those as, which is dont think is right Chassis Type: 1H - VW G/J/V Mk3 Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,25,56 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 01: Engine Controller: 021 906 256 Component: MOTRONIC M3.8.1 HS V04 Coding: 00000 Shop #: WSC 01317 4 Faults Found: 00281 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68) 03-10 - No Signal - Intermittent 00543 - Air mass meter - G70 06-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent 00282 - Throttle Valve positioner - V60 28-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent 00533 - Idle Speed Regulation 14-10 - Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded - Intermittent Readiness: N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Address 03: ABS Brakes Controller: 3A0 907 379 E Component: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00 Coding: 03704 Shop #: WSC 00000 3 Faults Found: 01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent 00290 - Rear Left Speed Sensor - G46 04-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent 00287 - Rear Right speed Sensor - G44 04-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent
From Autodata 00281- vehicle speed senosr, check wiring is your speedo working? 00543- max engine speed exceeded, guess youve hit the limiter at some point. 00282-idle speed control actuator/throttle motor-Throttle valve tight/sticking,check wiring too. 00533-idle speed control-throttle valve tight/sticking-iac valve or isc actuator/position sensor
There are 4 common software variations for the manual European MK3 Golf VR6 and 3 control systems from model year 92-98. Other software variations exist for Passat and Corrado. Below is my preferred way of identifying the engine hardware/software type rather than US federal diagnostic std of OBD1 or OBD2 ( US market common slang for pre 95 vehicles and post 95) . You have a late EU2 MK3 VR6 ( 1H chassis) with a Bosch 3.8.1 engine controller and an ABS controller with Electronic diff lock option. You used a 3rd party interface with a demo copy of VAGCOM 409.1. Engine related emission faults. Speedo G68, looks like the supply voltage source was interrupted as was the MAF (G70). V64 TPS and idle speed stepper share the J338 throttle module and also seem to have had a supply voltage interruption as the two will not fail at the same time. Suggest a reset and then monitor if the faults come back ABS system faults. The ABS module on MK3 vehicles intermittently disable the ABS pump for some reason. A reset normally turns on the system but does not always switch off the ABS fault light. I have been checking this out during the cold snap. I some theories about this which seems to be related to coolant bottle overflow wetting ABS unit and causing a system fault/short. Investigation ongoing using full version of VAGCOM to determine what happens when the hydraulic pump stops working Suggest a reset and see if the faults come back.
