    Hi all,

i have the latest version of vag com whichc i believe to be 409.1-s and i recently bought a ODB II usb cable off ebay to use with my laptop etc, upon installing everything i have been told that the usb cable will not work at all, it has to be a com port cable, im not impressed, have i been conned or is there a ways i can get it working.

    thanks, Marc

    download the twin-usb version,
plug the cable into the car and your usb port,
    turn ignition on,
    select the options tab,
check the usb tab, check the ' force dumb mode' tab in the centre,
press test, - it should find your cable
    then save.

my usb lead works via com port 2, works fine you just have to assign the port to vag com.

Did everyone on here purchase their Vag com? I brought a USB cable from ebay, which also came with a CD which has Vag com on it! - will I have any problems using it, and is it easy to use (vag com) ?

When you buy the USB cables you get the software and drivers on the CD. It's still USB but it installs it as a virtual serial device so the laptop thinks the USB cable is actaully a serial cable. You then assign it to a COM port 1 to 4 and match it up with the settings in vag com 409.1

If you get the no response from controller message it's either because you haven't switched the car ignition on before scanning or you havn't selected the correct COM port

Make sure you've got 409.1 mate! Mine did that for a while, until I realised I'd installed the wrong version!
