My laptops hardrive is split into drive C vista and drive E data which have a roughly equal share of 55gb each......i want to load up a bmw diagnostic program that is 25gb but it needs to go into drive C which has 6gb free......

How do i make drive C's portion of the hardrive bigger??

Any help will be appreciated [:D]

    Try
    1. Right click on Mycomputer
    2. click manage
    3. Click on Device Manager
    4. Right click on E drive and click reduce. Reduce it by 30gb
    5. Right click on C drive and click expand. expand it by the sam amount you reduced the other.

Hopefully this shoould work.. If it Doesen't sorry this was written from memory..
    Goodluck..

Thanks but it doesn't work......1,2,3 are fine but 4 doesn't exist?? If i go storage, disk management then it will allow me to 'shrink volume' on drive e so i have enough unallocated space but i can't then 'expand volume' to drive c??

    Any thoughts?

    Right click on Computer:

    Click Manage

This should appear. Now click on disk Management.
As you can see.. You can now see all your Partitions i only have one main one unlike your two.
Now right click on partition E E drive

    Click on Shrink Volume...
You will have to wait for your computer to sort out much it can shift..

    Then this will appear..

Select how much you want to reduce your drive by and thats that done..
Now right click on your primary drive C Drive
    And select expand
And expand by the same amount..
    That should do it..

Does it have to loaded on the C drive?

Whats wrong with installing it on the other drive?
-it should prompt you where you wish to install the program, defaulting to C drive, just change the letter to the drive with space.

If you buy a new drive, you can use disc image software to copy the drive contents over, the size of the new drive can be bigger.

Take a look at Acronis True image they do have a free trial.

Ideally, you would remove your existing laptop drive & temporarily install it into a desktop, run the image software creating the back up on either the desktops hard drive or burnt to DVD's. swap over the for the new drive & load on the disc image -no need to re-install vista & your old drive is left intact.

Quite convoluted & there may be issues with the lap top drives connections and the desktop -that is unless they are both SATA
