Recently done a timing chain on my vr6 started her up ran her to temp and she's spot on reved her up etc no issues, shut her off went inside, next day came out only to find when you crank she coughs and pops, 409 relay is clicking like a gooden on cranking, sometimes she fires into life but runs lumpy when revved but ( okish) on idle, faults brought up were crank sensor , maf sensor and immobiliser, cleared them tried agen and just these 2 fault codes keep coming up 00553 and 17978 ???? someone please help!!

00553 check first you have reconnected your mass airflow sensor at air filter or wiring from it ;)

409 is your fuel pump relay......

I would check the 109 which feeds ECU as these fail, and when they come and go you get your 17978 Immobilizer fault ..Replace relay ;)

Yeh it's been running perfectly then now she cranks starts n dies then cranks starts and runs and idles fine when you rev she coughs and splitters and pops, the rev counter drops
Down I've noticed so indicates crank sensor issues but that's not coming back up, you'll rev her upto like 3k she will pop
( misfire) then the rev needle will drop and then catch back up with itself etc if that makes sense , but really is a strange one, sometimes starts fine, sometimes small stutter then cranks but then now it's running crap but was perfect the night before lol

Your key coding doesn't come and go ..it works or it doesn't ... look at the 109 relay theses can come and go dirty.. points etc which in turn flags up random immobiliser faults

it is possible for the immobiliser to be intermittent, if say the reader coil is on its way out. mine had this most annoying!

to find out WHY the immobiliser is kickign in scan your immobiliser box, address 25. if it says key signal weak or something similar replace the reader coil

Sorted! Maf sensor was broken wire however, noticed when I was revving the rev needle was all over the place which was Indicating crank sensor so wiggled with when car was running and she stumbled and died, once I'd rectified that she's fine! Many thanks guys! Gota love the one big Vw mob!

When you think it's sorted you fire up and go to clear codes and this happens lol! [IMG] does this all boil down to bad wires or parts themselves?

did they come back after clearing? looks liek wiring faults for those codes but may be sensor problems.
