My 97 VR6 has recently started to idle a little high (around 1200rpm) when I first start her up on a cold engine.

Only seems to last for about a minute and then sits down nicely at 900 rpm. Apart from that it runs very smoothly.

Any thoughts as to how I might remedy this?

I know that it is an old chestnut but you need to use VAGCOM on the VR6 really. I also thought that the idle on a VR6 should be nearer to 700 rpm.

Try an ecu reset - disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

Failing that try for somebody near yourself with VAGCOM for a reading. It can save an awful amount of changing parts (always expensive on a VR6) in order to attempt a cure.

I am in Manchester so if you are local PM me and I will VAGCOM your car FOC.

It could be the coolant temp sensor (the blue one) but as Steve said VAGCOM would be a good idea.
