Is it a common fault? I've never heard of it as a normal fault for the MK3. Mine's done 105k and I think it's gone. With a bump start the car runs and drive normally, but try the key to start and there's absoloutly nothing... Any ideas other the SM failure???
You sure it's not just the battery?? Mine just went suddenly one day (had just used it - got back in the car and it was completely dead. All the other electrics worked though!) Just a thought!
99% sure it's no as I only put a new Bosch silver top in the 2 last months. But I do need to test it...
