I have just stripped down the front engine mount on my Rallye to powder coat but have hit a problem. The engine mount was home made by Dan Kinnerley & has a rubber & steel bush in it. I cannot identify what it could be from, I think it might be from a mk1 golf? Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Richard
Please don't post links to other VW forums. If your photos are on a hosting site like photobucket, then you need to use the IMG coded tags to post them on here. If they're not hosted, you need to host them on photobucket or similar.
Sorry about that, I will sort out a photobucket account. I normally just down load from my computer. That you very for posting the pictures for me. Richards
Can you put up some dimensions as that will help too. Outside diameter, Inside diameter and length. Even though there is a little splitting of the rubber at the ends, the design of that bush means it is still usable as there is no movement void. It is effectively a captive mount.
seen stuff like that before. they normally use a bush found on mk2 escorts and old ford stuff as they know they a popular and can provide a supply of replacements.
These are standard type resiliant bushes made by the triillion in the old days. Fitted in the eyes of cart springs, ie Escorts, Marinas, etc. Also used in cush drives of big power prop shaft joints. As danster says, you need OD, ID, length of outer sleeve, length of inner sleeve (sometimes longer than outer), thicknesses of inner and outer sleeves (this affects stiffness). Silentbloc was the #1 manufacturer!
Silentbloc still exist in Burton on Trent. Phone their tech. dept. they should be able to give you a part no. and possible applications.
