    For MK2 clusters, a 1.3 8v speedo for 02A/02J gearboxes.

Without looking at the ECU logic, I do vaguely recall you still need an electronic speed signal back to the ECU. Hence the reason most run a MK3 cluster.

if its a coilpack engine you can use diodes hooked to 2 of the spark triggers inside the coilpack:

if its a distributor engine then you'll need adaptor(s) to convert the ecu signal from 6 cylinder to 4 cylinder, then change it to the negative pulse that the MK2 clocks expect

You might need similar for the MK2 rev counter. We are speaking about the speedo though.

aye was just assumed that a working rev counter was also required even though it wasn't mentioned :)

for the ECU speed signal feed you would need GTI clocks or swap a speed sender from a set to the ones you have, sometimes they have the ribbon to retrofit it but not always.

Wiring wise it depends what fusebox the car has, CE1 its fed from a spade wire hanging out the bottom of the clock plugs but this isnt always fitted. CE2 its from W/1 on the fusebox, usually there is a wire here but again not always.

if you look at the radio often there is a white/yellow wire which is the VSS feed you need, since most stereo dont use it you can pinch it for use with the ecu
