1.8 16v 207bhp on jenvy throttle bodies, built by ATMR back in the early race days before the VW Cup started. Finished 2nd in the castle coombe saloons.

was that class B car back then? <1800cc I guess.
see quick yellow astra and tomcat rover scoot by..

bet 1m20s laps were quick back then.

10 years later who would believe 1m13s laps in combe saloons..

    amazing

Bill, Yep Low 1m19.07 was Lloyds fastest lap on Old Yoko A539's class B <1.8.

Tyres have come on a very long way too in that equation, throw in an extra 400+ bhp and 4X4 then 1m19 is very quick.

    5-6sec Difference.

8 years later Brands GP circuit. You can just spot my VR6 in the gravel trap on the left at 1m14. Jamie not me:lol: .

several guys stil run the A539 yokos on the lighter cars.
The scirocco was a nice car... light and nimble.. looked great under brakes.

Makes you realise the lap record time from Tim Hanlons Class (B) then, now Class (c) 1600cc Pug 205 of 1m16.? was awesome and likely to stand for years to come.

The Class (C) c'ship winning in 2007 car (<1800) of tony Hutchins ZR was 1m18s laps nipping at the heels of the current class B cars, which have dipped into high 1m15s laps in quali last year for both Tims ibiza and Mark Wyatts astra, but this year in the low to mid 1m17s. RE070 tyres were a step change in that performance.

Tyres remain the leveller... and why the EVO's can extract so much more out of their list 1a tyres than the 2wd brigade. 1m13s laps from RE070's on one evo and the new asymetric eagle on the other (255-35-18 size tho!)

10 years of racing the times have eroded slightly, but not massively it seems.
Me ole Jetta's 1m22s laps felt fast back then too.. oh how times change.

nice to see that vid tho.. you got any more lurcking?
