About a week ago the audi decided it was going to throw it's toys out of the pram and the cooling system light and buzzer came on.
Fans kick in, engine runs fine but if it sits idling the temp will suddenly go up. Move the car at all though and it'll go straight down again.
Whipped off the expansion tank cap and it doesn't look like the water is moving which leads me to think it's the pump.

Think it sounds more like a sticking thermostat ? Air lock maybe ?

Engine type helps as I can't think what you've got ATM

Hope it's the thermostat, certainly less bother.
Cam belt was done when I bought the car just over a year ago and you'd have thought they'd change that as well (service manual indicates they did).
Car is a 53 plate TT with the 225 BAM engine.

I utterly love it despite the fact it's camper than a row of pink tents. Not the car you'd expect me to drive as I'm a foul mouthed little Gollum

It cause basically because of air lock, you need to fix it properly otherwise it will cause a bog problem for you.
