for exapmle the 20vt's recirc valve was weak, so a good mod was to replace, and i read that the plastic impeller on the water pump was another weak point.

Just curious if there are any similar weak points to look out for on the t-fsi engine?

When gf had her ed30 remapped they warned that the dv can split on them, but apparently it's more of a problem on the earlier mk5s.

I think there were some issues with the mech fuel pump drive pushrod wearing as well, again I think it was a prob on the earlier cars.

as Gary aid early mk5's had a few issues but sorted on the later cars.

DV can bee a problem on gti as it on the turbo rather than round the front on the K04 cars

I hear they can suffer from a lot of carbon build up in the inlet ports / valves courtesy of the EGR system and lack of fuel wash due to the direct injection..

Damn stupid idea IMO. Maybe work fine when new to cheat at the old emissions game, but after a couple of years they are a mess.

I just spent the weekend coal mining down the inlet ports of a TDI.

They sure are, and it seems some manufacturers know it!

A bloke at work has a Zafira, and the EGR valve has failed. Told him just to blank it off, and not worry about it. Did a bit of research for him (looking for blanking kits), and it turns out that if a car goes into Vauxhall for it`s (IIRC) 60,000 mile service, one of the tasks performed is an `EGR software upgrade`.

What this actually consists of is them removing the EGR valve, blanking off the pipework, then deleting it from the ECU to prevent the EML coming on...

I have a VW Time Bomb too (n/a version) and so far:
    - The rear wheel bearing has gone
    - The rad has sprung a leak
    - The oil cooler housing sprung a leak
    - The lift pump got blocked from the inside! Only possible from the return line so where is the dirt comong from? ;)

Oh, I have only had it for almost 3 years and had 26k on it when I bought it. Now only up to 42k.
