The carb inlet manifold itself will bolt up straight to the GTI head without any problems.

nope heads are same bolt pattern 1.6-1.8. only issue is the lack of coolant drilling, but if using a webber you dont need it

so a 1.6 inlet ported will be fine, just wondered if the 1.8 was a better starting point thats all (bigger porting).

the 1.8 carburettor inlet and exhaust manifolds are different than 1.6, although they are interchangeable.
    beats me what's the difference:)

A 1595cc carb inlet manifold will be fine to use. The ports are the same size as the 1781cc carb inlet manifold.

The earlier 1588cc inlet manifold is different in a few ways as it does not have the coolant outlet off the head.

all MK2 carb 1.6 and 1.8 inlets have the coolant channel, whatever the differences are in the inlet it must be internal to the inlet, the holes at either end are the same

sticking with k-jet now anyway (as the weber route is expensive for what it is). Unless someone has got one lying cheap, priced it up and as follows:

    weber conversion kit 130 delivered
    Weber 32/34 227 delivered
    Setup 150

Plus i wonder if it would make the most of whats done to the engine in the first place ie:

    Big valve head
    Cam + vernier pulley
    Lightened everything.

Please give advise on what i should do as i'm losing the plot on what to do.

Kind regards and looking forward to your replies :)

    first thing,in post before:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WEBER-32-34-D...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2eafd5a936

and 150 is for rolling road and jets changed and such.

However if there is any advantage over the k-jet to warrant it I'd do it. Just wondered if it would be better than the k-jet. Rather than going down twin 40's and suffering with heat soak and such i think the 32/34 route wouldn't suffer as much. Would like other peoples opinion on this too, cheers tim.

you do know that the carb comes with the fitting kit, you don't need to buy it seperately, and it would come pre jetted for the engine size you are using

If the engine is an 8v GTI engine which now has a big valve head, cam, etc, then the carb will be at it's very limit, if not beyond it. My 1.8 GU engine is lightly modified and the bloke who set up my carb said it would benefit from larger jets to make the most of the engine.

I'd either stick with the K-Jet or if you really want carbs, look at a set of twin 40s or bike carbs.

I am starting with a driver 1.6 (couldn't find gti's as cheap as this, this clean). Yes i have everything needed, apart from inlet manifold. So not a problem going on k-jet really. In fact come to think of it i need an exhaust manifold too but they not hard to come by.

You would definitely want to be looking at twin 40's if you were to do this. I ran twin 40's on an 8v gti lump for a few years with 32mm chokes. And yes, if you don't have the right jets or end up needing the jets changing, it'll be about 150.
