Mk1 cab with a weber carb on keeps cutting out when started unless im revving it for a bit. It seems to be a bit starved of fuel at first as revs dont pick up as smooth as normal once its warm. I have got the Co to 2 and idle right (using a gas analyser not just guessed) and am wondering if its possibly down to the inline fuel filter being a bit clogged up after changing a rusty filler neck .
is it manual choke? have you checked its working as it should? theres a fast idle ajustment for when theyre on choke
yep manual choke...Flap seems to be working as it should, opens and closes.. how do you check the fast idle when its on choke, and how would i adjust it mate
urrggg hard to explain without being able to point lol if you look at the linkage that moves with the choke cable...it should have a screw that pushes against a cam type thing....ajust the screw and it runs faster on choke
try this just to rule it out: undo fuel filler cap have a rag handy incase of a lil bit of spillage for next bit undo fuel filter in engine bay (fuel tank side) give the hose a wipe then blow air through it repeat till you hear the gurgling at the filler end cured a similar problem I had once (needed muchos revs otherwise it would stall) also not a bad time to fit a new fuel filter
ok carb experts, new fuel filter fitted and also tried adjusting the on choke screw. It still runs then dies and the revs go up and down its not a smooth idle even off choke.... I used a gas analyser which i have used before to tune golfs up but i must admit im new to this carb business.. The way i set it up was to 1)run car to operating temp 2)diconnnect and plug vacuum advance 3)Get the car idling at around 850rpm 4)Once analyser ready insert into exhaust and note co reading 5)Adjust mixture screw until reading is 2 co Am i setting this up incorrectly ?
My understanding is that you don't disconnect the vac advance, but you should disconnect the rocker-cover breather from the airbox. And be careful of the rad fan kicking in and injuring you while you're fiddling with the mixture screw!
bugger. cheers mate. will give it a go tomorrow.... Even tried blowing compressor air down the lines and it was clear, thought it might of been crap in the tank or something Bloody pain in the **** carbs
could try taking all the jets out and blasting em with carb cleaner sounds like you set it up okay...the vac hose wont effect it much
Will try cleaning the jets aswell would the small fuel pump on the front of the block or the vapour seperator cause any probs too ...
aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hate bloody carbs. Still running crap. Like a tit i adjusted the idle screw to get it ticking over and now i cant get it right again with the analyser back to 1.5-2% CO with correct idle... Anyone know a mobile carb specialist near wigan who can sort it ??? as car has no MOT etc as is a project....
as a rough guide...screw the mixture screw all the way in then 1.5 turns out, that should be close enough to run
