Ok then, my last 16V had no real probs in the wet with the PAS. However my current 16V is annoying, any right hand bend taken in the wet pretty quickly will cause the belt to slip and the steering go very heavy, this is annoying and also god dam scary if your not paying attention. Me 16V has been dropped by 60mm and has wider then standard alloys on so i'm guessing more spray is hitting the pump. Oh it has a brand new PAS belt and is all nice and tight so it aint that. Does VW do a guard of some sort to stop this and how much round abouts is it?

    Cheers :)

There should be a plastic guard that fits to the wheel arch liner and chassis fitted to mk2s with PAS.

Not a clue what the part number is.

Yeah you can get a guard. There are two types, one for big bumper models and one for small bumper models.

My brother (the bodge artist that he is) made one out of a peice of kitchen lino and silicone sealant. It worked really well, and the flowers looked kinda pretty in there!! [:D] But I wouldn't advise it!

My 1.8 driver doesnt have power steering, though it does have the guard, as its a guard for the alternator / water pump aswell.

WOOOAHH! this happened to me earlier today. Its a tad scary when you are going round a roundabout failry quick when sudely the PAS goes and the steering is snatched away from you!

Is there a similar thing on the mk3's to stop water getting on it?
