I'm eyeing up a p+p head with cam , bolts , gaskets etc etc from a guy out of the country , the head seems to be a basic CnR job , no 3 angle valve seats etc . The seller first told me it was a 288 cam for a PB head , but the pics have me confused... Can anyone ID it please??[:s]

It's with a seller in Scotland Jon , and I am not! The more I look at it , the less I like the package , the head porting is not in anyway professional IMHO . Doesn't look like the guides were done , nor any 3 angle seats , nor any work to the compression chambers. Hmmmmmmmmmm...

Guess it depends on the price and the intended application

If the shape is right, the perfect finish is less important

I think you'd be better off getting your own one properly done. At least you know its done right then! Looks a good job for a bit of mild work though. The throats are restrictive and have been taken back and the guides look to have been removed and put back in which is good, rather than grinding the guide down to follow the shape of the port (bad idea) The seats look like they'd need a regrind anyway and there doesnt look to be much time in the porting of the head overall so may as well get your current one done? (if you have one?)

Funny I would have said the guides weren't changed, going by how they're marked. I'm gone off that one anyway , one is maybe available locally ish, and is a better one with bigger exh valves. Also waiting to hear if Jon Olds has owt for me...

This one popped up , seller seems not to know a lot about it , he reckons it has 35mm exh valves and a "hi lift" cam .
Any of you guys able to throw a beady eye on it ?

I didnt say changed, i said removed and replaced haha

I'd honestly just go and get one done yourself by someone you trust so you know its all done properly.

We've got a GU engine code head for sale at the mo, its a shame its not a head that allows injectors or id have sent you a link as it'l be going up for 100 less than what parts and labour was alone haha. Thats had new guides, ported, 3 angle valve seats, skimmed, worked combustion chambers etc etc so a bit of a shame. Saying that, if it was a GTI head id have had it myself lol
