Hos the hell did they get an 86mm bore in a VW 827 style block!! I'm guessing they were using the ABF head and stock bore spacing

Didn't tsr once make one of those square bores before?

It had a small cc but revved like hell & had quite a bit of hp for the cc.

    A59 ?

I'm doing some research for an article on the A59

Obviously I have some contacts through proper VW channels, but this is one of those specialist subjects where enthusiasts often have or know of information not generally available at a normal PR level

If so I'd be interested to hear from you ;)

    please email me at Neil.Birkitt@autometrix.co.uk

    cheers

Bump for an imminent Club GTI grey matter meltdown!

    Engine dimensions: 86mm x 86mm.

Was it a VW EA827 block at all?

:o Ooh... that's not a VW engine at all!

It even looks alloy blocked? But the round breather looks like the one off the small VW engines or the Audi engines.

I can't see how those dimensions could ever be a VW engine - any more details Hugo?

Not that much is known , but remember it was on 86x 86 mm

In LMP class a clean sheet engine design is allowed,
with the same bore / stroke as the A59 engine there is good chance that
the A59 was the base engine to start with or Cilinderhead or Block were used.
    (and these were already available)

Used in a Reynard chassis / Run by Team ROC / LMP675 class
Reynard 2KQ early cars used a VW engine with alloy block

Very weird stuff there, almost bespoke engines for Le Mans type vehicles being reverse engineered.

I wonder what alloy block this was. Was there a VW block around at the time, fitting the description?

Interestingly that's an abbreviation sorted out:

Indeed! And the thinking from the Touring car thread is 85mm is the maximum we've ever seen, + we don't believe those blocks are legit blocks, and Kit Cars are on 84mm, which are supposed to be legit.

So hence the Q, is this an EA827 block at all.

From what HPR is saying, it's racing-derived alloy block from Reynard.

The only VW block on 86 mm bore , is from the A59
and were already build for motorsport use
Where these Steel or alloy block ?
someone ever seen pics about this engine outside the car ?

maybe above engines were only build for lemans racing
or a rebadged engine with VW logo ?
