what size injectors would you recommend i use for my 2.0 16vg60, its using a stage 4 charger with 68mm pulley and will be using a remapped G60 ecu, ive been told i need red top 315cc bosch injectors to get the best out of my setup but im struggling to find any, would i be able to use larger injectors or will this overfuel? cheers in advance
Try some Saab redtops. 358cc you can pick them up for less than 50. You may need to match the mapping to these though.
I used the Bosch Greens, 450cc/min? on my 1.8 16v. Tried the Saab Reds but ran out of room. Megasquirt is night and day difference over the Digi1 ecu, well worth the effort.
Im slowly building up the parts needed for my mk1 16vg60 conversion and im at the stage where i need to buy the ecu and wiring loom. Ive heard of people running into difficulties mapping the standard digifant ecu and have been thinking about investing in a stand alone ecu for a while. Is it just not possible to get the most out of a 16vg60 conversion with a remapped digi ecu? If not how much difference would a stand alone system make? When you say night and day, are you talking about so much more driveability/power that it easily makes it worth the extra expense? What are the best options out there at the moment? Any help appreciated, cheers.
It doesnt have to be expensive. A standalone will give the mapper control over fuel and spark to give you the full potential if the motor. I'd say it's well worth it. Although dependant on your skills, you could go megasquirt as it involves more user input. Or you could buy a more expensive emerald, dta, omex etc that is a bit more plug and play. They should give you the same results though.
I have been told by john betz at bahn brenner to use 30lb injectors on my 16vg60 conversion, he says they will be ample. Has anyone used these injectors?
Don't listen to him, he gives out information that generates a sale and when you go back he does not want know, either via email or the VWVortex forums. Fuel in the USA is a lower RON, you will find that his 16VG60 chip for the 30lb injectors he will sell you will be useless. Yes I was burnt by this. My setup had 30lb injectors, they ran out of fuel at full chat. What you really need is 37lb injectors, no longer available in the body size needed. I spoke to Mike at JabbaSport who recommended that 42lb injectors should be used, although he did say that it would be marginal that the Digifant setup would have enough resolution and speed to finely control the injectors at light and part throttle. He set it up and it ran ok, great power but not refined enough, it would overfuel on cruise and create black smoke on full chat. I am a bit of a perfectionist so decided to go for an Emerald setup, Innovate wideband and distributorless. This coming weekend might see it running again !!
Unless you plan on running a 4 bar regulator and less than 200PS of fuel flow then 30lb/hr injectors are no good. Run at least 36 lb/hr Saab jobs or 42lb/hr jobs as suggested by KeithMac.
OK well thanks for the heads up. I think ill stick to a uk supplier then, its just a question of finding someone who specialises in these conversions. Do the 37lb injectors still come up for sale? Are there many types out there? What should I look for?. I have also been told the original Mk1 golf fuel pump will be up to the job?
I replied to Mattjay's original similar post somewhere else. Can't remember where. But I basically said that I'm running 440s, and I actually checked my MS logs to see what the maximum duty cycle was that I hit at full load on the RR. From memory, when producing 200bhp I think the injectors hit about 50% or 60% at the business end of the VE table on a RR run.
Have you any idea what the limit of these injectors is then in terms of the amount of power you can develop with this engine. I Was hopeing to achieve somewhere around 250bhp.
There are loads of size calculators out there on the net This is an easy one to use, gives you a fair guide http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/InjectorSizeCalc.html
Saab redtops should set you back around 50 set which are 36lb or 358cc. They should be good for that output. 42lb or 440cc should be good for ~280+ hp and come in a variety of flavours. Bosch greens should be ok for your engine and are a common choice.
