    Hi There

I am new to the forum and wondering what exactly is meant by mapping the engine? I have a Mark 4 GTi 1.8t (150bhp).

What effect would mapping it have?

What would the costs be ?

    Sorry to sound so uninformed

It's when they program an engine managment, can involve many variables, fuel/ timing / revs etc, even more with turbo cars

This is an ignition map on mine:

Cheers. Do you know what kind of extra bhp I could expect on my golf and what the rough cost should be?

McDUff - For your car REVO or Custom Code would be a good suggestion. :)

This is an ignition map (one I knoced up earlier:lol: )

The ECU uses this to cross reference the engine RPM with the throttle position, manifold pressure or air flow (depending on your sensor) and selects the optimum ignition advance programmed for those parameters.

A similar map is used for the engine fuelling, but instead of ignition advance, pulse width, (the time each cycle the injectors are on for) is mapped out.

Mapping is the process of creating a engines optimum performance map.
