What oil for a 2.0i beetle

    As above just need to double check what engine oil for a beetle 2.0i 2000 reg
    Is it 5/40 or 10/40

    As the wife's beetle is running low

    The "book" probably says 5/40, but TBH, you'd be fine with either unless you're a real stickler for what VW recommends.

    Unless you know whats in it now, anything is better than running it low.

    When was it last changed, can you find out what was used?

    There are lots of choices on Autodata for these with long-life crap and all sorts.

    Confused? lol

    Thanks everyone chucked some 5/40 in it
    But will be having a full service soon

    Depends on your annual mileage but as GVK says, at the moment anything is better than a low dipstick reading. Upto 10k a year then a 5/30 semi synthetic or if above 10k you'd need what VAG call a longlife oil which is a low ash fully synthetic 10/40.
