Had the car in at the exhaust place today to get some new clamps fitted and was chatting to the lad who was doing the work,

i know all they wanna do is make money outta people so ive come on here to ask the question.........

he said i should go for a system with 2 1/4 inch tubing instead of my 2inch tubing system.....

Will i gain anything by doing this? Its on a BAM code 20vT (2003) running approx 280bhp

    Thanks for your help,

    Mark

the wastegate is there to protect the turbo from overspooling is it not? The only disadvantage i have heard from running large zorsts is loss on low down grunt if u go too big.

Mine's running a 3" Downpipe going into a 2 1/4" system, as the car is low there wasn't enough space over the rear beam for a 2.5" pipe without it constanty knocking.

But with the 2 1/4" system it's been fine, you still maintain reasonable back pressure and it's not far off the 300bhp mark (estimated since rebuild and tweaking, last rr was 280bhp).

Nice one alex, didnt even think about the rear beam getting in the way! Id bet a 3" system is gonna cause havock trying to clear!

Might have a look at getting one of them bypass valves that the US boys love???

    Cheers mate!

yeah might branch the system from a 3" into a twin 2,1/4" just before the beam, or just see if i can squeeze a 3" in.

Nope, Single pipe can be squeezed over the rear beam, even on a lowered car.
