My brother wants to buy a mk4, its his first car, I told him to get a 1.6 as I doubt a 1.4 would even move, what are common things to look for on them? He will probably hav about 2.5k Thanks
electric window mechanisms go but only about 40 and a mornings work if one goes. Air flow metres are common on the turboed cars but not sure about the non-turbo ones
keep away from a 2 Litre if it comes in budget, not that quick if they start / are mid way though a emissions issues can end up costing loads over 18 months, as all the knock on effects of a faulty airmass meter show it's self - probes & decent CAT needed do a quick search on here - mk4 buying 1.4 /1.6 should of had cam belt at 60K / 4 years only major issues off top of head are rear axle bushes noisy/ movement normally knocks over bumps rear springs broken as bottom - front are noisy on turning when spring has brake, a clanging noise slight play in ARB bushes, rest normal car buying advice
for 2500 he could get a much nicer car than a small engined mk4 mate? thats not a mk4 hater comment either, its just for 2500 you can get some fun stuff nowadays that is still ok on insurance
no not mk3........ more like this: insurance might not be too bad?? better than a punto much nicer than a mk4 1.6
