0.5 mm for sensors/signals and the 1.0 mm for certain power driven devices such as, injectors, f/p relay, stepper motors, coil packs etc.

    Thanks.
so the ebay link should be suitable for me then.

just got to decide where to locate the ECU. Was planning to put it inside the car, any ideas for a good spot?

Get a wiring loom from a modern ish Renault. Very good quality cabling, lightweight and self extinguishing insulation.

    Ok cheers for the ideas.

Where's the best place in the car to put the ECU? behind the dash, under the centre console?

Those areas are fine once the ECU can be easily accessed.

also mk3/4 golf use modern thinwall insulation cabling, just depends how cheap scrappy prices are if its cheaper to take a loom out of there or buy fresh wire off the bay of e. 20 quid is a good price if really is enough to do a full engine loom. though the other advantage with a scrappy loom is if you have a terminal removal tool you can recycle the terminals as well if they're good rather than spending out on new terminals for everything

They are sensor wires, so I`d use 0.5mm as Toyotec suggested?

Tacho feed is no good, DTA signal doesn't work with Mk1 tacho.

What are you running on Aux 2? That will determine the load

    Ok thanks.

Had a feeling the tacho output wouldn't work as I'm sure I read it on hear somewhere before so was going the leave a loose tail just in case. I guess I'm going to have to go the diode route from the coil signals. My car is an early Mk2 but I assume its the same as a Mk1?

I will not be using Aux 2 at the moment so again I was going to leave a loose tail just to future proof it. Will probably use 1mm wire for that just in case then.

    Cheers.

if its a wasted spark you can go that way yes, or get one of the adaptors the 20v guys use such as msd 8920 or whatever. diode route is cheaper :)

I have a later Mk2, but they should be the same. I did the resistor/diode off my coil pack, it works well.
