Been looking at insurance for my next car, and for a golf it is f**king ridiculous. I could insure either of the other 2 options for less with the same company, so what would you go for? P.s. Please do chuck your 2 pence worth in. Bit of a dilema this one! Edited by: V Dubya
I'm 22 yr old male, had license for 5 years, 3 years ncb, no accidents or convictions, car parked on street in CV1 (Coventry). I tried direct line, elephant and screen trade, and while the quotes are wildly different, it is always the same pattern of golf most expensive, coupe very slightly cheaper, and the 80 a lot cheaper. (with elephant I think the golf was 1470, the coupe 1400ish and the 80 about 1000ish, which is a hell of a difference!)
I'd get the mk2 also, but i'm 110% biased towards them. (I wouldn't pay 1400quid for insurance though on anything)
The passenger door of the audi in the secind picture is a different shade to the rest of the car. Have you thought about a Vento VR6. I was quoted less to insure one of those than an 8v Gti.
Right chap Iv just got you a quote of 623.70 for a Golf GTI 16v 1990 in your name. Thats fully comp too. I based it on a CV3 postcode because try as I might I couldn't seem to get the online quote to match any CV1 postcodes up with a house number or name so the address I put in is: 14 Monks Road, Binley Woods, COVENTRY, CV3 2BS. That was through www.churchill.com with all your details.... d.o.b,NCB of 3yrs & over 3yrs licence held etc etc.
I have a 16v and me mate has an audi coupe 2.3 20v (not quatro). I personally prefer the golf, the coupe is well quick but its also well heavy and really feels it on corners. Also doesn't hold the road very well on bumpy corners at speed. 5 cylinders sound awesome though. Anyway whatever you save on insurance you'll spend fuelling the heavy biach around.
Apparently the quattro has much better handling than the front drive version. I know all about your mate's coupe, and the amount he spends on fuel!
I know a guy who has a 2.8 80. I think it is a bit toss and he can't sell it either. The coupe's are nice but to be honest, if you cant find a quote for a 16v cheaper than the other two i'd be very surprised.
Because I looked on multimap.com for a street/road name near the centre of Coventry as thats where I presume CV1 would be. Then I put that name of street into the Royal mail's post code finder but for some reason it wouldn't accept the road names & numbers I was inputting as matches. In the end it gave me a CV3 after I'd typed in an address so I made do with that. Surley the price on Insurance from a CV1 postcode to a CV3 post code can't be that much? Anyway I think a fully comp quote of just over 600 is bloody good. I used all your details inc your name, its hust the address is slightly different. Try getting a churchill quote yourself, I bet its not much different. (BTW, I put the value of the car in as 2000 & that your milage a year was upto 7000 & that the car had a Clifford Concept 600 immobiliser) Edited by: The Machine
