Hello again, well...Ive got my car from my dad and Im trying to keep it in good shape; and now I found this: It is disconnected and I have no idea what it is for, and dunno if still in good shape even if I reconnected. Anyone? ...sorry if my english is not good enough.
It is a vacuum reservoir. I'm not sure what carburettor you have (can you take a photo with airbox removed?) but on the Pierburg 2e2 (and 2e3 also, maybe) it connects to the choke pulldown unit, allowing a slow, controlled transition from the first stage of pulldown to the second stage over a few seconds. That is, an automatic partial opening of the choke flap as engine vacuum develops on first starting from cold. What engine size is it?
thats deffo a 2e2, but it looks like its off another car, a beemer or ford perhaps? Never seen that cylinder on the left there, thats where the 3/4 point unit is supposed to go... If the car runs ok I'd leave it as its
Never seen one quite like that, looks to have a very 'Pierburgy' style. A bit of carb cleaner looks like it might be good. If it starts OK from cold, you could forget about or remove that green ball, as long as there are isn't a vacuum hose lying around leaking air that should be plugged in to it. If there is a vacuum hose that looks like it would reach there, plug it in and see what happens.
