if used in conjunction with other mods - free flowing exhaust, air box mods, bored TB etc could be worth it. Otherwise money probably spent better elsewhere

    1.8 8v? We talking Mk2 here?

Doesn`t even need a cat... ;) (unless it`s one of the odd-ball K-platers out there)

No, honestly, you`re fine, you don`t need one!

Catalytic converters didn`t become compulsory until 1st August 1992.

My old Mk2 was a J-plate, first registered in June `92, so just sneaked in, and didn`t have a Cat fitted.

They were a dealer option from early `91, I believe, but were massively expensive, and very few people were eco-concious enough to fork out.

And, as Wez says, a sports cat on an 8v will gain you precisely zero. Much better without...

I`m assuming you don`t currently have a CAT anyway?

It could still fail the MOT on emissions, but this won`t be due to the lack of a CAT. It`d just need a proper setting up if this was the case.

The car came with a cat and I'm putting a new exhaust on stainless steel with a 4 branch manifold. So if it had one on the car to start with so I'll have to put one back on then right or wrong my head is up me @r with it all. Ta.

    Yeah, wrong...

Looks like someone was eco-concious enough to tick the option box after all!

The new system will be a lot cheaper if you get rid, and will be less restrictive too.
